Planar light wave circuit (PLC) splitter is a type of optical power management device that is fabricated using silica optical waveguide technology. It features small size, high reliability, wide operating wavelength range and good channel-to-channel uniformity.

Different Types of PLC Splitters , how to   distinguish them ?

A .  According to the  PLC splitter chip( the number of fiber inlet and fiber outlet )  , have  1xN and 2xN PLC splitters .

Installers can choose different input and output numbers depending on subscriber conditions or cable length.

1xN :  1x2 , 1x4 ,1x8, 1x16, 1x32,1*64 PLC splitter  etc  

2xN:  2x2 , 2x4 , 2x8, 2x16, 2x32,2*64 PLC splitter  etc

B .  According to the  PLC  splitter  appearance  , most been used type including ABS  Box  Type  PLC Splitter /Blockless  Type  PLC Splitter /LGX Box PLC Splitter /Rack Mount PLC splitter etc  .

ABS  Box  Type  PLC Splitter  Features :

1.Uses ABS plastic box to hold the PLC splitter chip.

2.Input fiber and output fibers are arranged on the same plate of the ABS box.

3.Can be installed in standard 19” rack unit/enclosure.

Blockless  Type  PLC Splitter Features  :

1. Resemble bare fiber PLC splitter, but has fiber optic connectors.

2. Uses stainless tube package for the PLC splitter chip.

LGX Box PLC Splitter Features :

1.The whole PLC splitter is housed in a metal box and the fiber optic adapters for both input and output fibers are on its front panel.

2.Can be used stand alone or be installed in the standard rack unit/enclosure.

Rack Mount PLC splitter Features :

1.Uses a standard 19” design package.

2. Can be installed in server racks in data centers or server rooms.

Conclusion

Fiber optic PLC splitter is a low cost fiber distribution solution in passive optical networks. Widely  used in FTTx /CATV Systems /PON Networks /Telecommunications etc .
